Gauteng’s economic influence is over R1-trillion to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product
This premier conference will showcase multi-sector investment opportunities in Gauteng. Contributing over R1-trillion to South Africa’s GDP, Gauteng’s economic influence extends far beyond its borders. The conference will reinforce the province’s position as a strategic connectivity hub for investments into South Africa and Africa.
The Gauteng Investment Conference will focus on key sectors such as financial services, technology, trade, and infrastructure. Industry experts will delve into Gauteng’s Place on the African Continent, Driving Gauteng’s Competitiveness through Infrastructure and Accelerating Infrastructure Investment & Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
Unlocking infrastructure investment through innovative funding mechanisms
Unlocking the full potential of Gauteng’s infrastructure requires a bold and innovative approach to funding. Traditional methods alone are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of a rapidly growing and dynamic economy.
The Gauteng Investment Conference will explore how innovative funding mechanisms can attract private sector capital and accelerate infrastructure development. Furthermore, we will showcase the critical role of strategic public-private partnerships (PPPs) in leveraging expertise, sharing risk, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of infrastructure projects.
By embracing these collaborative and forward-thinking approaches, we can unlock the infrastructure investments needed to drive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for all residents of Gauteng.
Gauteng to attract R800-billion in investment over the next three years
Since 2014, Gauteng has secured two out of every three FDI projects in South Africa. The province has retained this momentum as a magnet for regional FDI since January 2024, having secured R25,6-billion in investments from 38 companies, creating nearly 7,800 jobs. These investments have primarily been in sectors like ICT, environmental technology and automotive, with countries like the United States of America (USA), Denmark and the United Kingdom leading the charge. The influx of data centre investments, renewable energy projects and digital infrastructure developments highlights Gauteng’s leading role in Africa’s technological and environmental transitions.
The GIC will highlight the Gauteng Department of Economic Development’s commitment to sustainable job creation, inclusive economic growth, and regional development. At the GIC launch last month, Gauteng MEC of Finance and Economic Development Mr Lebogang Maile unveiled a bold strategy to attract R800-billion in investment over the next three years, reinforcing Gauteng’s role as South Africa’s economic powerhouse and a premier investment destination in Africa.
The Gauteng Investment Conference’s key priorities
-
- Securing R300-billion in investment commitments in the inaugural year of the GIC.
- Showcasing high-growth sectors such as advanced manufacturing and the digital economy.
- Enhancing Gauteng’s business environment to attract and retain investors.
- Promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
- Creating jobs and supporting township businesses, women, and youth.
With the 2025 G20 Summit set to take place in Johannesburg on 22-23 November 2025, Gauteng’s global prominence is poised to rise significantly. Gauteng plays a crucial role in Africa’s food security and agricultural value chain, processing 35% of the continent’s food. As South Africa assumes the G20 presidency, Gauteng has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position as the gateway for investment into Africa’s agro-processing and food production sectors.
This initiative and numerous identified catalytic projects offer a unique opportunity for businesses to invest in Gauteng. Now is the ideal time to capitalise on the province’s growth potential and establish a strong presence in one of Africa’s most dynamic and rapidly developing regions.
