Local exporters benefit from Nedbank and ECDC International Trade Seminar

The collaboration between Nedbank and the ECDC is built on the premise of a forward-thinking approach for local exporters to unlock new growth opportunities in a rapidly evolving global economy.

The Nedbank and ECDC International Trade Seminar, held on 10 April 2025 at the Invest SA One Stop Shop in East London, tackled the evolving global trade landscape under the theme “Navigating Trade War Turbulence – Alternative Mitigation Strategies for South African Exporters.” The seminar brought together industry leaders and subject experts to unpack the complexities of the international landscape and explore practical solutions for navigating volatility.

The programme opened with welcome remarks by Linda Lubengu from the ECDC and Siphamandla Ndlovu from Nedbank, setting the tone for an insightful engagement. Crystal Huntley, Nedbank Specialist Economist, shared a sharp economic overview, highlighting key trends shaping the trade environment, followed by Andrew Mackay, Nedbank Senior Dealer in Foreign Exchange and Money Markets, who unpacked the role of hedging instruments in mitigating exposure to risk, while Carolyn Louis, Nedbank Strategic Sales Manager, delved into various payment strategies and trade instruments in global trade.

The keynote address by renowned trade specialist and market research advisor, Martin Cameron, Managing Director Trade DSM, provided strategic insight into how exporters can remain competitive amid ongoing global uncertainty.

The ECDC Trade Promotion Programme is designed to empower Eastern Cape exporters with the essential tools, knowledge and instruments needed to overcome export challenges and thrive in international markets. Aligned with the vision of this programme, the collaboration between Nedbank and the ECDC is built on the premise of a forward-thinking approach for local exporters to unlock new growth opportunities in a rapidly evolving global economy.
